Description

Michael Barnaart designed this brooch for the Made in Dolland exhibition, about Dolly Bellefleur’s idiosyncratic visual language. Strong images from both high and popular culture play an important role in the design of the brooches. By simplifying and abstracting Dolly’s silhouette (haute coiffure and long legs), a powerful and iconic image is created.

Dolly Bellefleur is the alter ego of comedian and lyricist Ruud Douma. As a key figure of the LGBT+ movement, Dolly has been calling attention to human rights in general, and the acceptance of LGBT+ in particular, in her own unique way for 30 years. For her unbridled commitment to the emancipation struggle of LGBT+ people, she was elected Roze Lieverdje in 2012, and in 2014 she received the Andreaspenning from the city of Amsterdam from Eberhard van der Laan. In 2020, the Bob Angelo Medal was awarded to Dolly.
